For the price, we could have driven to Vancouver and had acceptable food at one of the restaurants there. You’re just being taken advantage of, and they know it. I understand that businesses have decided they’re entitled to overcharge now in order to make up for losses during the pandemic, but in cases like Din Tai Fung, the price hikes are exaggerated and even a bit offensive. The prices, meanwhile, have skyrocketed beyond all reason. No, there was one exception: the beef noodles, in which the meat was so strong and so gamey against the mushy noodles that it was also impossible to finish. All the rest of it was interchangeable and with no discernible flavor. Out of 10 dishes, the only ones I would have saved were the garlic broccoli and the spicy won ton. We didn’t even finish the shumai because they were so awful. The filling on the pork bao had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. Where did all the great seasoning and flavors go? Some of the dishes we ordered tasted literally like Trader Joe’s frozen food. Third and most disturbing: the food has gone absolutely to hell. Clearly, the intention of the restaurant is to turn the tables over as quickly as possible, which is probably great for them but lousy for the dining experience. The minute a serving plate is empty, meanwhile, someone rushes by to take it off the table, which is another way that you feel encouraged to eat and get out. There’s no reason why there could not be a little bit of spacing between one dish and another. All of the food comes out at once, which means not only that the table is uncomfortably overcrowded with plates, but also that some of the dishes get cold. Second, the service is extremely rushed, and you feel hurried the entire time. You can’t have a conversation, and you can barely hear the waiters. It was an expensive disappointment.įirst of all, the place is absolutely deafening. Last night was the first time we returned since restaurants opened. What in the world has happened to Din Tai Fung? Before the lockdown, we had been to Din Tai Fung a number of times and were always impressed by the quality of the food. This is s big plus! We would thoroughly recommend stopping by. Most notably, I left without any horrible feelings of bloating or over-fullness, like you often do when the food is full of rubbish and MSG. I would say that considering the standard of food, service, location and general extortionate prices in Seattle, Din Tai Fung was very reasonably priced. The wontons, bao, buns and dumplings were perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. We were amazed at how each dish was more delicious than the last. We ordered almost everything on the menu and the dishes came as and when, which was perfect as once you’d worked through the two or three that were there, more would arrive. We had cocktails the pear and lychee martini and lychee mojito are way up there with the best cocktails we’ve ever had. However, this is a low standard considering the service industry in the US, post covid, is the worst we have experienced any where in the world, including Sri Lanka, which says a lot! I would say that the service was great, and they were attentive but not frustratingly so. The atmosphere is lively, as expected, and the staff were friendly and helpful enough. In what’s known as the ‘yuppie district’, the setting is pretty interesting in the middle of a car park - in a good way, and you can observe all the chefs in the kitchen prepping the wontons, bao and dumplings etc. My partner and I have moved to Seattle for a while after travelling the world for the past ten years, and have been on quite the mission exploring all the cuisine that the.
